Getting Started

For more information, the best place to start is often contacting SmartStart Schools. SmartStart Schools has a variety of dynamic programs in place for school officials, by architects, engineers, or other trade allies with new construction or significant remodeling projects at any stage of development, including

Early conceptual stage
Planning stage
Mechanical design stage
Construction stage

Early conceptual stage — To gather more information about the features and benefits of SmartStart Schools or to discuss design options and energy-efficient technologies, contact a program representative. You’ll get answers to your questions whether you’re looking for details or preliminary ideas.

Planning stage — It’s important to involve SmartStart Schools as early as possible to ensure that your options for a comprehensive design are completely open. Contact a program representative or click here to complete an online registration form.

Mechanical design stage — If you are already working with an architect or engineering firm, you should immediately put the firm in touch with the Commercial/Industrial Market Manager for the NJ SmartStart Buildings Program. Depending on the project’s status, there may be time to incorporate energy-efficient technologies that can provide significant long-term savings. You, or your engineer, can complete the online registration form and technology applications by clicking these links.

Construction stage — If you already have started construction, contact a program representative as soon as possible.
