SmartStart Schools is a special program designed to help New Jersey's K-12 public schools build energy-efficient buildings.

SmartStart Schools is a component of the New Jersey SmartStart Buildings Program – an effort sponsored and directed by the State of New Jersey as part of the Board of Public Utilities' Clean Energy Program.

The program includes financial incentives and technical assistance for cutting-edge energy efficiency for long-term savings. Program services and financial incentives may be available to your school district no matter where you are in the state.

Public K-12 school districts whose electricity is provided by a municipal utility may be eligible for only those portions of the program that address the energy efficiency of natural gas equipment if you are served by one of the state's regulated natural gas utilities.
