2007 CLEAN ENERGY WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS (INVITED SPEAKERS)
Special Session: New Jersey's Energy Master Plan – Creating Opportunity in the Face of Challenge
At this specially scheduled session, get a preview of the New Jersey Energy Master Plan. Find out how you can seize opportunities the EMP aims to create. Members of Governor Jon S. Corzine's cabinet representing economic, regulatory, environmental, and transportation sectors who have developed the EMP in the last year, will discuss its forward-looking goals for ramping up energy efficiency, capping greenhouse gas emissions, and easing congestion on the roads and on the power grid, and for developing in-state sources of renewable energy and alternatives to fossil fuels.
Moderator: Debbie Mans, Energy Policy Advisor, New Jersey Office of the Governor
Speakers: Jeanne M. Fox, President, New Jersey Board of Public Utilities; Lisa Jackson, Commissioner, NJ Department of Environmental Protection; Kris Kolluri, Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Transportation; Gary Rose, Chief, New Jersey Office of Economic Growth
Clean Energy Project Financing
Learn how to execute energy projects with the help of public and private funding that can reduce up-front costs and improve project economics. Leading experts from New Jersey's Clean Energy Financing Program will present the business case for financing options for energy efficiency projects and distributed renewable generation, including technologies such as solar, wind, biomass, and combined heat & power. Learn how to effectively apply these financing solutions in context to business goals and changing economic conditions.
Moderator: Paula Durand, Senior Venture Officer, New Jersey Economic Development Authority
Speakers: Scott Connor, Engineering Manager, New Jersey American Water; Miriam Serxner, Senior Deal Associate, MMA Renewable Ventures; Edward Wojtowicz, Vice President, Finance, Honeywell Global Finance
Combined Heat & Power and Demand Side Management
One of the goals of the State of New Jersey is to enhance energy efficiency through on-site power generation with recovery and productive use of waste heat, and to reduce existing and new demands to the electric power grid by providing financial incentives for Combined Heat & Power (CHP) installations. The CHP Program helps reduce overall system peak demand and encourages the use of emerging technologies. Learn how to take advantage of $7 million a year in incentives and hear from customers, contractors, and energy service companies why CHP installations are smart business.
Moderator: Joe Sullivan, Business Ombudsman, NJ Board of Public Utilities
Speakers: Kristi Aaby, Gas Turbine Marketing Manager, Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery Inc.; Michael Fischette, Corporate Principal, Concord Engineering Group, Inc.; John Parodi, Director of Energy Management, Roche Pharmaceuticals
Renewable Energy Technologies & Markets – Regulatory Update
Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) will continue to play a key role in driving investment in renewable energy projects and technologies. How will federal, state, and regional initiatives interact and affect the market for renewables? Hear from the leading experts on Federal RPS, Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), and New Jersey's RPS. The program will cover everything from the fundamentals of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) through key regulatory issues, and various policies impacting REC markets and pricing.
Moderator: Commissioner Frederick Butler, NJ Board of Public Utilities
Speakers: Lance Miller, Chief of Policy & Planning, NJ Board of Public Utilities; Chris Sherry, Research Scientist, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection; Andrew Kolchins, Director of Environmental Markets, Evolution Markets Inc.
Green Building Design: Designing Buildings that Save Energy & Reduce Climate Impacts
Buildings account for almost half of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions. Combining the annual energy required to operate residential, commercial, and industrial buildings along with the embodied energy of industry-produced building materials like carpet, tile, glass, and concrete exposes buildings as the largest energy consuming and greenhouse gas emitting sector. Green design presents opportunities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in all these areas. Learn how the envelope is being pushed through the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED system and about innovative projects in the United States and United Kingdom to design and construct buildings that reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Moderator: Andrew Topinka, CPMR, Chair, USGBC NJ, Technical Group Services, Inc.
Speakers: Brendan Owens, LEED AP, P.E., Director, LEED Technical Development, USGBC; Paul Stoller, Director, Atelier Ten Consulting Environmental Designers, LEED Architect; John Imperatore, Director of Facilities Resource Management, Rowan University
Renewable Energy Technologies & Markets – Solar Photovoltaics
Since the initial launch of New Jersey's Solar Renewable Energy Certificate (SREC) Program in August 2004, SREC trading volume and prices have steadily strengthened as New Jersey's solar market has taken off. SRECs are expected to play an increasingly important role as New Jersey's solar market transitions from rebates to a new financing model. How will solar systems be financed under New Jersey's SREC Program? Leading market participants will explain how SREC pricing will be factored into project financing and new opportunities to grow New Jersey's Solar Market to meet its goal of 1500 MW by 2020.
Moderator: Commissioner Joseph Fiordaliso, NJ Board of Public Utilities
Speakers: Tom Kuster, Chief Executive Officer, Turner Renewable Energy, LLC; Scott T. Massie, CEO, EPV Solar; Scott Hunter, Renewable Energy Program Administrator, NJ Board of Public Utilities
Clean Energy Strategies to Reduce Your Carbon Footprint
In 2005, New Jersey's Clean Energy Program helped avoid an estimated 317,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions through the installation of energy saving measures and technologies. This is the equivalent to taking over 60,000 cars off the road or planting 94,000 acres of trees. Over their lifetime, these clean energy measures will avoid 3,407,440 tons of CO2 emissions. Learn about the latest metrics to estimate your energy footprint and the climate benefits and savings of specific installed clean energy measures. Hear from business and municipal leaders about program partners, resources, tool kits, and strategic planning initiatives to reduce our energy footprint.
Moderator: Commissioner Christine Bator, NJ Board of Public Utilities
Speakers: Michael Mahoney, Assistant General Counsel, Pfizer, Inc.; Julio Rovi, Principal, The Cadmus Group for Energy Efficiency and Green Buildings; Edward Brzezowski, P.E., LEED AP, The Ferreira Group .jpg)
