The New Jersey CleanPower Choice Program is sponsored by New Jersey Board of Public Utilities' Office of Clean Energy, with participation of New Jersey-regulated utilities and state-approved CleanPower marketers. The CleanPower you buy is supplied to the power grid that serves electricity to all customers in New Jersey and the mid-Atlantic region. Your CleanPower Choice supports the development of more environmentally friendly electricity generation.

How does the CleanPower Choice Program work?

Conventional electricity comes from a variety of generation sources such as natural gas, oil, coal, and nuclear.* CleanPower is electricity generated from renewable energy sources like solar, wind, biomass, and low-impact and small hydro power.

All these sources of electricity are supplied to the power grid that delivers the electricity to all customers in New Jersey and the mid-Atlantic region. In the past, the sources of energy coming into the grid were primarily from fossil fuel power plants.

When you make the CleanPower Choice, more of that energy flowing into the grid comes from clean energy and less from fossil fuels. The more people who sign up, the more clean power that replaces fossil fuel power. By choosing CleanPower, you're supporting and encouraging the development of renewable resources that are critical to the future economic, security, energy, and overall health of New Jersey.

Your electric service is made up of two parts, supply and delivery. When you choose CleanPower, a New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, Office of Clean Energy-approved supplier purchases CleanPower on your behalf and delivers that CleanPower into the power grid.

But no matter what electric supply you choose, your local electric utility is still responsible for delivering your electricity safely and reliably from the grid into your home. Your local electric utility will still provide you with customer service and respond to emergencies. What's more, your CleanPower purchase will appear on your regular monthly electric bill so there are no extra checks to write or bills to mail.
