Solar Domestic Water Pilot Program

Save money and help the environment by using less fossil fuel!
A solar domestic water heating system is a reliable and efficient alternative for heating your water.  It can provide a significant portion of your home’s water-heating needs.

Incentive Levels and Qualifying Models
A $1,200 incentive is now available to New Jersey residents with gas water heating that install a solar domestic water system to replace or supplement their existing system.  Please see the list of qualifying models below:

Note: The Solar Domestic Hot Water Electric Program has reached maximum funding levels for 2010 and is no longer accepting applications.  Please note solar domestic hot water gas program rebates are still available.  Please call 866-NJSMART should you have any questions. 

*Due to the limited availability of funds, the solar domestic water program must terminate at the earlier of when funds or exhausted or December 31, 2010. Program termination information will be posted on NJCleanEnergy.com.

Getting Started
Systems must be installed by a properly licensed and NJCEP approved contractor with a New Jersey Home Improvement Contractor's License.  You may view the list of approved contractors or call 866-NJSMART for more information.

Upon completion of the solar water system installation, your contractor will help you complete an application which includes copies of the installation invoice and equipment specifications, so that we may process your incentive.  The applications are listed below:

*Solar Domestic Water Systems do not generate Solar Renewable Energy Certificates (SRECs) and will not be registered on the SREC tracking system.  For more information about SRECs and solar electric or photovoltaic, visit the Renewable Energy section of this site.
