Q&A with Henry

  • What indoor problems were you having?

The original mechanicals were installed in 1993.  The air conditioning was leaking profusely and the water heater was overdue for an upgrade.
  • How old is the home? How long have you lived there?

I purchased the house new in 1993, so I have lived there for 26 years.

  • What made you choose to go through with Home Performance?

My friend had recently had his house updated and had a good experience. I understood that an evaluation of the house would be done and recommendations would follow.  Our utility bills were high and the mechanicals were needing repair often.

  • Were you surprised by any of the things your contractor found during the audit?

I was. The contractor told me I would see over a 20% savings in my utility usage.  Our master bedroom and bathroom have vaulted ceilings. Upon evaluation, those rooms indicated the most heat loss in the house.  The contractor insulated the verticle aspects of the vaulted ceilings and the rooms are much warmer now.

  • What other changes have you noticed since the upgrades were made?

Our house is warmer and we are saving approximately $50 a month on our utility bills.

  • How long did it take the contractor to complete the project?

The work was completed in one day.

  • Had you taken any steps prior to going through Home Performance to make your home more energy efficient?

    I did not.

  • Have you told your friends and family about the program?

I have recommended this program to many people.

"(The Home Performance program) is the single best decision I made regarding home improvements. The Insulation Heating and Cooling Group are awesome."  Henry

Home Performance with ENERGY STAR is a comprehensive program that provides energy savings, comfort, health, and safety solutions. A specially trained and certified Building Performance Institute (BPI) GoldStar contractor conducts a home energy assessment testing carbon monoxide levels, moisture, indoor air quality, cold/hot spots, and stuffiness/stale odors. They also identify areas for air sealing, insulation, heating and cooling system upgrades. After the assessment, the contractor provides the customer with recommended solutions to any apparent problems or areas of concern, along with an estimated project cost for the upgrades.

Currently, the program offers a rebate up to $4,000 and a 0% interest loan up to $10,000 for 7 years, or a 4.99% interest loan up to $15,000 for ten years. By utilizing this program, homeowners can save up to 30% on energy usage.
