COOLAdvantage Program
Program Overview
The COOLAdvantage Program provides rebates for energy-efficient central air conditioners or heat pumps as well as proper system sizing and installation "best practices" that affect operating efficiency. Call 866-NJSMART or see below for more information.
There is also a seasonal rebate offered for room air conditioners.
- Customers of Atlantic City Electric, Jersey Central Power and Light, Public Service Electric and Gas, or Rockland Electric are eligible for specific COOLAdvantage incentives.
- Customers of municipal or co-op electric customers are eligible for COOLAdvantage incentives funded through the federal government (ARRA).
Incentives
New 2010 incentives for the COOLAdvantage program went into effect April 1, 2010. Incentives and information for units purchased before April 1, 2010 and on or after April 1, 2009 are still available.

| HSPF (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor) - for heat pumps only |
Qualifying Geothermal Heat Pumps:
To ensure that New Jersey residents get the full benefits of an energy-efficient central air conditioner or heat pump (i.e. that it operates as efficiently as its energy rating suggests it should), the rebate will be processed only if your installing contractor submits documentation that the air conditioner or heat pump has been properly sized and installed.
Central Air Conditioner rebate amounts are based on the unit's SEER and EER and documentation that the proper installation requirements have been met. Both the condenser and coil must be replaced or installed as a matched set as rated in the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute certified performance criteria.
Geothermal/Ground Source Heat Pump rebate amounts are based on the unit's EER. Documentation that the unit has been properly installed is also required.
Heat Pump rebate amounts are based on the unit's SEER, EER and Heating HSPF and documentation that the proper installation requirements have been met. All three factors (SEER, EER and HSPF) must meet minimum requirements in order to qualify for a rebate.
Federal Tax Credits are available for energy efficient home improvements.
COOLAdvantage ARRA Incentives Overview
As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities has received funding from the federal government to increase participation in New Jersey's Clean Energy Program and allow the COOLAdvantage program to be statewide and inclusive of municipal and co-op electric customers.
The ARRA funding will provide rebates for the replacement of existing equipment with high efficiency home cooling systems in existing homes for current New Jersey residential electric customers.
Due to limited availability of ARRA funds, the municipal and co-op electric portion of this program must terminate at the earlier of when ARRA funds are exhausted on December 31, 2010. Program termination information will be posted on NJCleanEnergy.com
The 2010 ARRA COOLAdvantage incentives go into effect April 1, 2010. Due to the limited availability of ARRA funds, the program must terminate when funds are exhausted. Program termination information will be posted on NJCleanEnergy.com.
